Could A ‘Superman’ Sequel Depend On Christopher Nolan And ‘Batman 3?’

The internet has been swamped with reasons and rumors as to why Superman-fans are still waiting to hear something — anything – official about a possible sequel or franchise revamp for Big Blue. From the news about Warner Bros. wanting to take a “darker” route with the character moving forward, to the whispers about the studio hunting for a new director, there’s no shortage of “he-said-she-said” regarding the delay on a follow-up to 2004’s “Superman Returns.”

However, LatinoReview throws yet another rumor into the mix as to why there’s been seemingly no movement on the “Superman” film front — and it has to do with “The Dark Knight” writer/director, Christopher Nolan. During a chat with the president of DC Comics, Paul Levitz, LatinoReview quotes DC’s head honcho as saying that Warner Bros. is waiting on Nolan to sign on to direct and write the highly-anticipated “Batman 3,” elaborating, “once that happens, the release date for ‘Superman’ and all other future projects will follow.”

Granted, readers should take this news with the standard grain of salt, considering the exchange took place at a party after the recent “Watchmen” press screening in New York, and was written under the guise of a casual conversation with Levitz (as well as factoring in “Dark Knight” co-writer David Goyer’s recent comments), but with each passing news story regarding DC Comics’ stable of characters heading to the silver screen, it’s become abundantly clear that — regardless of whether or not ‘Superman’ hinges on him — Nolan has become a vital cog in Warner Bros. movie machine.

The article also states that Warner Bros. hopes to have the third installment of the revamped Batman franchise in theaters by 2011, with a new Superman film hitting a year later.

If the article is to be believed, should Warner Bros. put that much stock in Nolan? And would you rather see a sequel or a total revamp of “Superman”? Comment below, Splash Page readers.

He will be doing that in his 50's, haha. I don't know, the reason why he wanted to do Batman? Hmm, if it somewhat matches a reason to do Superman he just might do it someday.

Imagine if Nolan did direct 'Superman' ... WOW!!! That would be so cool!!! I think he could make it just as good as the Dark Knight with his 'as little as possible CGI' theory, a perfect cast (just like batman) and ... it could be amazing!
