,,boromir: it is a strange fate that we should suffer so much fear and doubt over so small a thing. such a little thing."

in the lands of middle - earth, the dark lord sauron forged a ring of power to control all the creatures of middle - earth. the ring was taken from him and fell into the hands of bilbo baggins, a hobbit from the shire. the ring was then passed onto young hobbit frodo baggins, with one task set before him: to destroy the ring. frodo begins his journey with a fellowship that will protect him on his mission. a few words to describe the brilliant story of the first lord of the rings! the acting was extraordinary and the cast was perfect (elijah wood, viggo mortensen, ian mckellen, liv tyler, hugo weaving, john rhys - davies, ian holm, christopher lee, sean bean, cate blanchett, orlando bloom, sean astin and many others). the visual effects, the soundtrack are simply great! so much to say, but i resume to invite you to discover a realm beyond your dreams, an amazing trilogy...

    I love.
I wish PJ did the movies more intune with the book, although i relise alot was cut out for paceing and alot more because you cant fit all that book into a movie, they still missed out on alot of inmportant parts. and
It is a peice of masterwork, much better then the animater lord of the rings from waybackwhen.
no offence but the animation on that was crap.
althought Peter did cut ALOT OUT.
    i want Tom Bombadil!!!!!!

The fear was tangible at the premiere for Fellowship, as Ring-readers worried if Jackson was up to it. 'Course he was. And how. A dashing, hugely skillful adaptation.

Yes, give me sci-fi/mythic and I'm happy. Although the books will always be better than one person's perception of what it would be like (given that a lot of things still were not totally parallel to the books), the casting and special effects made it well worth watching. Elijah Wood did well in centering the story on his character. And, well, I loved it.

Okay, it's not the book. But Jackson has outshone everyone in this trilogy. This is it. The best in years.

I just finished watching it. Time sure flies, but I wasn't impressed. There are some scenes where the CGI is blatantly fake. There are some awkward moments which I really could not understand (like the scene where Galadriel screams like a lunatic then calms down all of a sudden). But I'm still eager to watch the remaining two.

The first installment of the best filmed trilogy of all times. I cant think of a better adaptation - except War and Peace maybe but that too didnt have the kind of visual challenges this one does. Purists dont agree citing differences between the movies and the book but hey!!! I am just a bloke looking for entertainment and grand entertainment this is indeed. A must watch delight and sure to be reckoned as an all time classic.

Wow! The first of the series, Lord of the Rings was the best amazing movie I have ever seen. Filled with action, adventure, humor, I thought this was the most wonderful movie of all. The best scene and most touching is where Gandolf screams "You shall not pass!" A part which still has me choked up when he dies. :( lol...but still, the movie was amazing and the characters were wonderfully cast in this fantastic movie. Best music score to go with this great movie. Although is was only 3 hours long, the ending left you craving for more...

    "The Legend Comes to Life"

New Zealand filmmaker Peter Jackson fulfills his lifelong dream of transforming author J.R.R. Tolkien's best-selling fantasy epic into a three-part motion picture that begins with this holiday 2001 release. Elijah Wood stars as Frodo Baggins, a Hobbit resident of the medieval "Middle-earth" who discovers that a ring bequeathed to him by beloved relative and benefactor Bilbo (Ian Holm) is in fact the "One Ring," a device that will allow its master to manipulate dark powers and enslave the world. Frodo is charged by the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) to return the ring to Mount Doom, the evil site where it was forged millennia ago and the only place where it can be destroyed. Accompanying Frodo is a fellowship of eight others: his Hobbit friends Sam (Sean Astin), Merry (Dominic Monaghan), and Pippin (Billy Boyd); plus Gandalf; the human warriors Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) and Boromir (Sean Bean); Elf archer Legolas (Orlando Bloom); and Dwarf soldier Gimli (John Rhys-Davies). The band's odyssey to the dreaded land of Mordor, where Mount Doom lies, takes them through the Elfish domain of Rivendell and the forest of Lothlorien, where they receive aid and comfort from the Elf princess Arwen (Liv Tyler), her father, Elrond (Hugo Weaving), and Queen Galadriel (Cate Blanchett). In pursuit of the travelers and their ring are Saruman (Christopher Lee) -- a traitorous wizard and kin, of sorts, to Gandalf -- and the Dark Riders, under the control of the evil, mysterious Sauron (Sala Baker). The Fellowship must also do battle with a troll, flying spies, Orcs, and other deadly obstacles both natural and otherwise as they draw closer to Mordor. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) was filmed in Jackson's native New Zealand, closely followed by its pair of sequels, The Two Towers (2002) and The Return of the King (2003).

    Review
A masterful piece of work, this film is inspiring and uplifting. All cast members give excellent performances, and even though there are many special effects used, they enhance the story, and don't dominate it. It won't appeal to everyone, but for people who like action/adventure/fantasy this film is for you! I loved it (as you can tell).

    Two-Thumbs up!
This movie had great graphics, special effects, and the storyline was well planned out.
The scenes created in this movie were dynamic. From the simple village to the elaborate Elfin village. It is a movie that needs to be seen on the big screen to be able to see all the details, although i think you'd have to see the movie several times to catch most of the details.
The special effects are not over done. If fact some of them are almost realistic. I love how they make the fantasy creatures move and interact with the real actors.
The Lord of the Rings books are classic and timeless. They were popular and widely read in the late 60's and continue to be widely read today. The movie still has the essence of the book, even though several items had to be omitted. What a great way to escape into another place and time, even another world!

    Breathtaking. Captivating. Inspiring.
Lord of the Rings - The Fellowship of the Ring is, in my opinion, one of the greatest cinematic accomplishments in the history of film.
I can not fault Peter Jackson's direction, he quickly became one of my favourite directors after I witnessed this masterpiece.
Not only was every scene awe-inspiring and beautiful the cast was frankly amazing.
I'm not sure what it is about this film but I was captivated from begining to end. The only negative thing I can think of to say was that I didn't get to see this at the cinema. Not a great suprise either are the 4 Oscars and 76 other awards won.
Note to people who have not seen this: go and buy the extended version. NOW.

Nearly an age after being felled by the sword of Isildur, Sauron awakens, called by the Ring. Yet the one thing that can guarantee his victory lies in the most unlikely of places; the hands of a hobbit.

Ranging from the rolling hills and farms of the Shire, to the amazingly intricate elf-halls of Rivendell, home of Elrond, to the woods of Lothlorien, home of Galadriel, this movie features some of the most breathtaking scenery ever captured. At each turn, the music of Howard Shore complements the action perfectly, making this one of the greatest movies of our time. This is a must-see for all action/adventure fans.
