Plot: A new clue to the whereabouts of a lost treasure rekindles a married couple's sense of adventure -- and their estranged romance.
Fool's Gold's biggest problem comes in the form of confusion. While employing two game lead actors, one notorious for making bad films sellable (that's you Matt!), neither Ms. Hudson or Mr. McConaughey could save this film that can't seem to decide whether it's a comedy or an action film.
When an estranged couple meet mere hours after their divorce on board a privately owned super-yacht (she's working, he's slumming), their romance is instantly rekindled by a new clue into the treasure that has been their goal for years. Once they recruit the stupid and rich boat-owners, nothing's left but to be inspired by random things to each new unbelievable clue along the way.
Kate Hudson positively glows on-screen here, but that radiance doesn't resonate with the rest of the film. Fool's Gold delivers very few laughs, relying mostly on slapstick and a dumb-girl character. And the whole plot doesn't even work that well. Many subplots that are put in place are never completed, and the dialogue doesn't go over well. All in all, this wasn't even a good romantic comedy OR an action movie- largely because it wouldn't commit to either genre mixing both elements unsuccessfully. Skip this one... 4/10 stars.
ugh...thanks for doing your part in ruining the treasure hunting genre, guys...lol...i seriously did not like this movie. yes, there were a COUPLE funny parts that made me SMILE (not laugh, smile...and usually i like supposed comedies to make me laugh). kate hudson & matthew mcconaughey do have excellent chemistry...but it didn't really show up as well in fool's gold as it did in how to lose a guy in 10 days.
also, donald sutherland's "daughter" REALLY bugged me throughout the movie. i know she was supposed to, but still...all that screechy whining made me sick haha. overall fool's gold was way too predictable & pretty boring.
knowing wat's on each other's mind..intersts.. this kind of bonding hard to find.. ever come across do cherish ya..
huh, disappointing and to top it off, the dam reshoot of the run to the courthouse (inwhich i played an extra - 'the guy walking the walk to the entrance as-well as mathew) was shot with another actor. needless to say i was even more disappointed to see the trailor commence with this scene, i would have gotten heaps more cash for being in the promotion package (advert) i`d say. Anywayz probably my only bias review and my only clame to fame walking past a sweaty and panting barefoot McOnnerhy all day isnt really worth writing about but hey, dosn`t happen to everybody !
This movie was ok. Very predictable, but it was good to watch. I think I liked their other movie together better. This one had some funny moments along with a gory scene.
To be honest it's a poor mans copy of into the blue - except not as pretty or action packed..... I found myself getting bored half way through and there wasn't nearly enough comedy or chemistry between the leads. Average but it'll do for a boring sunday afternoon.........
Great movie! Fantastic adventure! Wonderful romance!!! Adding this to the favorites for sure!!!!! Absolutely loved this.
Loved it. Never really liked Matthew McConaughey but I really liked this movie. It amped me up and I actually wanted to go out and go treasure hunting.
Hahahahahahaaaaa
SO POOR!
Not only was the script abysmal, but it was just so poorly shot, I knew it was never going to be an Oscar contender lol, but it was just...beyond bad, i had a few exopectation I must admit, but even Matthew McConaughey topless didn't redeem it..haha!!!
Want To see this considering I live not far from Airlie Beach where some of it was made & of course it looks like it would be a good movie - Was not impressed that I was up there when this movie was being made & didn't get to see any of the Actors
"Fool's Gold" is a typical 21st century treasure hunt movie that looks good but is empty inside. The story is in no way any special or original and it feels like we've seen this done better so many times before.
McCon concentrates mostly on showing his abs and Kate Hudson... Well, she's nice. Rest of the cast do an average (some of 'em are really bad!) job but I guess, all of 'em took the filming as a nice Caribbean vacation.
If you just turn your brains off, you might enjoy this movie. Otherwise, watch "The Goonies" again. Now, there's a perfect adventure/treasure hunt movie!
As soon as I found out this movie was actually a treasure-hunt movie and not just a slapstick-fest romcom that the trailer would lead you to believe, I wanted to see it--and I'm glad I gave _Fool's Gold_ a chance. True--my treasure-hunt movie bar is a lot lower than my general movie bar, but--for me, at least--_Fool's Gold_ hit all the right fun, fantastic, unbelieveable, and silly notes.
No-brainer of a film. Not completely unenjoyable, but not something I would ever sit and watch again either. Extremely poor compared to "How to lose a guy in 10 days". Where that film was light and funny, this one just relies on Matthew McConaughey prancing around without his shirt on, (please someone buy him a shirt!), a lot of dumb action and not much else. Kate Hudson is okay in this, and a few laughs from some of the supporting cast, but that's about all I could say for this!
Fool's Gold is exactly how you would expect it to be. As for the story's strength and the actors performances, it's exactly what you would expect. Matthew McConaughey, Kate Hudson and the other supporting characters deliver more than adequate performances and Donald Sutherland is as brilliant as he can be considering the overall quality of this movie. Definitely watchable.
I loved this movie spectacular scenery, great action and adventure and Mat & Kate brilliant together again
Matthew took his shirt off and my heart melted. Then Malcolm started talking and Kevin Hart was little bunny. Just the thought of the movie is funny but it so lacked in the good funny kid of way.
Quite predictable in parts, but I guess the plot was not the most original - young, divorced couple reunite while trying to find a treasure. Matthew and Kate make an okay teaming, but I probably didn't think they were as good together as their first movie. However, it has some funny parts and is light entertainment with a few cool stunts, so if you are looking for a mild, no-brainer, this movie might do if for you.
'The DaVinci Code,' 'National Treasure,' 'Sahara' and even 'Pirates of the Caribbean' pulled off the treasure hunter adventure movie better, but still enjoyable if you're looking for a movie in that realm that includes romantic comedy and actual chemistry.
This had Matthew going for it, that's all. It was funny in parts and it was a poor use of Donald Sutherland's amazing talents. Two Words: YUK MALCOLM. This was a just not a good comedic vehical.
Felt like this movie was 3hrs long. No break from the constant EPIC sounding movie music soundtrack was very tiring, storyline was ok, Inspires me to book a tropical vacation & go swimming, other than that... so/so. Over-hyped. ;-)
this is kind of like a lot of other movies about a couple wanting diffrent things and the outcome of beliving in a treasure, it has it¨s charm and so on, a movie to see if you just want to chill with your honey, lol
1st 40 mins were really excitin, rest of the film wasn't quite to the same standard but was still decent. Really funny in lots of places throught out the movie.
Fool's Gold was a pretty good movie all and all. I thought that it was a little slow moving in the beginning. It surprisingly had some funny and exciting action scenes. The acting was played pretty well between all the cast. I think that Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson do a great job together. There were also some very funny parts in the movie. It also very cute and had some pretty interesting things in the movie. One thing so good about this movie is that it makes you feel like your in the movie. I love adventure movies where they are on a beach and ocean. All and all this is a great romantic comedy and is worth your money. If you are seeing this movie to see Kate Hudson in a bikini the whole time shes not. As a matter of fact she is only in a bikini once. Matthew McConaughey on the other hand has his shirt off a lot this movie. Overall this was a very fun romantic comedy.

Well I thought the beggining was extremely boring, the daughter of the rich dude was VERY annoying and the last 30mins were very good...I did have some laughs but I thought I could've been better...they r a gr8 couple, I think the story line should've been more interesting...
Tess: "How did you learn to fly?"
Finn: "Oh, you know, ...PlayStation."
HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA
