If you take it for what it's worth as a cute, quirky independent film then it meets expectations. But if you are expecting a blow you away comedy because it stars Jack Black then you will be disappointed. Maybe the movie would have gotten better ratings if it didn't have such an "all-star" cast. The Sweded movies are great. The movie's website made it that much more interesting with the sweded internet.

MCT:October 3, 2008Charming and somewhat hilarious, Be Kind Rewind is a an optimistic, and enjoyable movie dedicated to artful movies. The end will leave you happy, and, though not a laugh out loud riot, will make you laugh.

MCT:October 3, 2008This movie was funny and cute at times, if not bizarre and a little over the top. Really wasn't what I expected, especially the dominating Fats Waller theme. It borders on fantasy but it's fun to watch the leads recreate some popular movies and bring the community together at the same time.

This is a really heartfelt movie at the end of it. It says a lot about our society and the small-town mentality that these people had, in a good way for them. Mos Def and Jack Black are great together, as are their 'Sweded' movies. I only wish there were more. Not bad, not bad at all.

I expected more from this movie I feel. Lots of potential but not enough focus on the re-done movie for my liking. And the ending was very week. I think the ending needs to be sweded.

Maybe it was because I was really looking forward to this movie, but I was really disappointed by it. Aside from the plot being far less clever than advertised, it was also far less funny than advertised. While both Jack Black and Mos Def are pretty hit or miss, they both missed the mark in this one, simultaneously delivering one of their most annoying characters, respectively. The faux films that they create are all pretty amusing and quite clever, which make's this movie worth watching maybe once. The supporting cast wasn't bad either, but there wasn't anywhere near enough of it. The soundtrack was okay as well, but as a whole, this movie fails to deliver.

Visionary director Michel Gondry takes a potentially hilarious premise and really lets it go to waste in this quirky comedy. The moments of comedy are quite clever, but the various takes on popular movies could have handled so much better. The two leads are fun and it's nice to see Danny Glover again, but when the DVD special features are more entertaining than the feature, you know you just watched something less than memorable. Such a shame really.

Such a fun and upbeat movie. I laughed pretty much nonstop through the first 2/3. Things got a little sappy in the final reels, but Gondry's heart was in the right place. Inventive, goofy, ultimately heartwarming. It's like a slapstick 'Cinema Paradiso' for the video-store generation, reared on Reitman and Ratner rather than De Sica and Fellini. Hey, that's me! I can totally relate. I loved this.

This was a very strange type of spoof really. It's about a group of friends working in an old VCR rental store and how one day a disaster caused them to change into movie makers.
The whole spoofing was quite well done and there were funny parts, however the pace of the film was quite slow in places making it slightly tedious.
Overall it's an average 3 star movie, plus extra half a star for a great message that you've got to believe in yourself and miracles will happen, so long as you put tonnes of effort into getting your dreams to come true. -

Cute...after a tediously LONG first half. Nothing really wrong with it, but it just took me too long to get into it. Not the uproarious comedy I thought it was going to be.
